The Wag Festival is celebrated on the 18th day of the first month of the year and directly preceded the Festival of Thoth (Day 19), creating a continuous festival season marking cosmic renewal and judgment. Families shaped miniature boats out of papyrus or reed, packed them with symbolic provisions and set them adrift on the Nile. The barks floated westward toward Amenti the realm of the dead, symbolically providing the deceased with a vessel to navigate the dangerous waterways of the Duat (underworld).
